Born 1955 in Kriens, citizen of Oensingen/SO. Author, director, producer and vintner. Lives in Zürich and Ligerz/BE.
After attending school in Oensingen, Jegenstorf and at the Gymnasium Immensee, Werner Schweizer studied sociology, public relations and European folk literature at the University of Zurich. He has been involved with video and film since 1973. He is a cofounder of Video-Zentrum and the Videoladen cooperative, Zurich («Züri brännt») and of the film production company Dschoint Ventschr AG as of 1994, together with Samir and Karin Koch.
From 1983 to 1989 he worked as an author and freelance journalist. Between 1987-89 he completed his first documentary film for the cinema. Since then he has worked as the author and director of documentary films for cinema and television. Werner Schweizer is a graduate of European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE, 1990) and has since also worked as a producer at Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion with a focus on documentary film. His many productions include, for example, the documentary films «Skinhead Attitude» and «Dirty Paradise» by Daniel Schweizer, «Hell on Wheels» and «Joschka and Sir Fischer» by Pepe Danquart, «Geysir and Goliath» by Alexander J. Seiler, but also feature films such as «Clandestins» by Nicolas Wadimoff or «Die schwache Stunde (The weak hour)» by Danielle Giuliani.
Werner Schweizer was co-producer of the «atelierzerodeux» at the expo 02 in Biel (2001-2002) and is also active in Swiss film politics, among other things on the board of trustees of the Cinémathèque Suisse in Lausanne and chairman of the authors' rights cooperative Suissimage.
Werner Schweizer is the co-author of the books «Leben im Widerspruch – Amalie und Theo Pinkus» (1987/1994, Limmatverlag Zurich) and «Der Fall Noel Field» (2005, Basisdruck Berlin).
