Bomben, Krieg, wütende bärtige Männer, verschleierte schluchzende Frauen, kaputte Städte: der Irak von heute. Dagegen stehen Bilder der 50er und 60er Jahre: Filme mit frivoler Musik, westlich gekleidete Frauen die studieren, elegant gekleidete Männer in Baghdad, einer modernen Stadt. Wie konnte es soweit kommen? Verstreut zwischen Auckland, Moskau, New York und London, erzählt Samir die Geschichte seiner globalisierten irakischen Mittelstandsfamilie.

«Baghdad in my Shadow» had its world premiere in August at the Locarno Festival and impressed with sold out performances in the biggest venues. On November 28th, the film will be released in Swiss cinemas. Before the official release, Samir will be touring the german part of Swtzerland with his film.

On the occasion of the official release on November 28th, the film will also be screened at the «frauenstark!» festival in Basel.

On October 28, «The Forum», the new documentary by Marcus Vetter, will open the 62nd edition of DOK Leipzig. The film will be screened as part of the international competition.

The film tells from the internal perspective of the World Economic Forum the struggle between global business leaders and national politicians to solve the world’s most urgent problems. Can the WEF, as a platform, help to shape a better future for our planet, or is it just the perfect cover for businesses to lobby their own agendas?

The project is a co-production with gebrueder beetz filmproduktion, Filmperspektive, SWR, BR, HR, SRF, SRG SSR and VPRO and was supported by Creative Europe MEDIA, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, M.F.G. Filmförderung, Zürcher Filmstiftung and the Swiss Federal Office of Culture.

Additionaly, the film will have it's cinematic premiere at the Urania in Berlin on November 4th.

We are pleased to announce the world premiere of Samir's new feature film «Baghdad in my Shadow», which will be shown as part of the 72nd Locarno International Film Festival.
